You’ve probably encountered various annoying experience about food at some point in your life. I mean it’s a big industry so mistakes are unavoidable here and there. However, when you encounter a mistake that you specifically prevent it from happening, it’s not good for anyone.
I get very irritated when things like that happen. I would like so much for it to change. Though as much as I want, most of the time mistakes happen due to human’s wrongdoing so it’s kind of impossible to change. I can say that I have a fair share of this little kitchen’s annoyance because I am very specific about what I eat.
As I mention before, I am a picky eater for the American food industry. I don’t eat out much because of this. I cook most of the time so it’s guaranteed that I have what I want. When I do eat out, mistakes happen and most of the time my appetite would take a run for the money.
There are these assumptions in the food industry which established from years and years of consumer’s behavior. One of them is that everyone likes cheese. This is true for most Americans since it’s one of the staple while growing up. For me, I didn’t know cheese exists until I am 17 years old so it’s not one of my favorite things in the world. I actually avoid cheese every chance I get. You probably are screaming “Are you crazy?”, aren’t you?
Most of the time, I am very successful at getting a plate of food without a single shred of cheese. I normally get things customized so it fits my style. You would think that when you get something customized, mistakes would not happen. Oh no, they still do. It happened to me on my most recent trip to Papa Murphy’s. It’s the only store that I can get a pizza built from scratch with everything I want. I clearly ordered everything I wanted without mentioning cheese but what I get is a pizza with everything I asked for plus cheese. I was shocked.
So basically they assume that every pizza needs to have cheese even though I was creating my pizza. I didn’t say “no cheese” because I assume without me mentioning cheese in my customized order, my pizza should not have cheese. Now I learned my lesson, I should be very specific in what I order no matter what. You should too even if it’s something obvious and logical. There are assumption anywhere food is concerned. Don’t make any assumption because you know what they say about assume.
That’s my rant for the day. Do you have a kitchen’s annoyance?
