When you asked a waitress what her favorite cocktail is at the establishment, and the answer she gave was, “I am actually not 21 years old yet.”
So I don’t know if this has happened to anyone else but it has happened to me more than once already. The most recent time was last weekend when I went out to dinner at a restaurant here in Pullman. It made me think that maybe the joke is on me.
I only turn 21 years old recently so I don’t have a lot of experience with cocktail. It made sense to me to ask the waitress that question because many times waitresses can give you recommendation on food that they serve. So I think why not cocktail?
Whenever I got the answer “Oh, actually I am not 21 years old yet”, all I can say is “Okay”. However, they still gave me a recommendation by saying what cocktail is popular at that restaurant. I feel very awkward every time that happens.
I also feel a little annoyed because I assume that most wait staff should be at least 21 years old to serve alcohol. But then when I think about it I got my alcohol serving permit before I turn 21 years old so silly me. I guess the excitement and hunger came over my common sense as well as what I knew.
I now learned my lesson so next time the appropriate question will be: “Excuse me, what is the most popular cocktail here at your restaurant?” This way, those awkward moments like this shouldn’t happen anymore.
