I think everyone has some small little things that can light up their days anytime. For me, that small thing is baking; it also comes when I find the perfect recipes as well as the perfect ingredients. The satisfaction from baking a perfect cake can always make me jump up and down like a child with their favorite toy on Christmas morning. I also look at the collage as a presentation of life. The ingredients are the starting points, and the cakes are the finish line. Even though the process is important but if you know where to start and where you are going in life then you will get there.
My topic is about baking so I included all the cakes I have baked for the last couple months and also ingredients like strawberry, orange, milk, flour, etc… because ingredients are important to make a cake. I originally wanted to include baking tools but they didn’t fit together well so I cut them out. I want to create a connection between the pictures so for example; I put the strawberry picture next to the cake that used strawberry.
I changed my mind couple times about what I want to do for this collage. Some of my ideas failed because I couldn’t execute my vision. I know that I want my collage has some formality in it. I don’t want a bunch of pictures smashed together without a flow so that’s why I put in the square shape.
For the technical part, I want it to look elegant and fun so I keep the color tone pretty neutral and pastel. In my draft, I used a picture of cupcake liner as the background, and I use the free transform command to make it fit the whole canvas. After looking at what my peer has to say, most of them didn’t know what the background was until they read my post. Therefore, in this final version, I put pictures of the cupcake liner in the four corners. I had to rotate those pictures so all of the clear edges are in the center of the picture. In addition, I used the dissolve mode to blending the layers and added the outer glow and the shadow. The most work that I have to do in the collage is to crop individual images from their previous background using the selective tool. Then I created each square separately using the custom shape tool. I also adjust vibrance, level, and brightness/contrast so the overall look can be improved. My draft had 10 pictures in it but I deleted some of the picture because I couldn’t get the watermark off of them. I created a rectangle to go around the edge of the collage so it looks more define. Finally, I switched the position of some pictures around and added the title “Pieces of Life” on the collage.
Pictures were taken by me except for the chocolate swirl picture.
